SOLDIER ‘I’ S.A.S

BY

KENNEDY

PUBLISHED;BLOOMSBURY

FIRST 1st Edt 1989 HARD BACKED

Soldier l, so named to preserve his anonymity at the  coroner’s inquiry into the Iranian Embassy siege,  spent a remarkable eighteen years in the SAS,  becoming a legend within that legendary force.  This book tells the full story of those eighteen years  and includes inside accounts of the operations  in which Soldier I was involved: from the arduous  training and selection process, through the  embassy siege when Soldier I led the assault on the  rear of the building, to parachuting into the freezing  waters of the Falklands.

Soldier I: SAS also tells of lesser-known SAS  activities: the gruelling Operation Jaguar and the  terrifying battle of Mirbat where a handful of SAS  men held back thousands of Yemeni tribesmen;  undercover surveillance and raids on the IRA in  Belfast; a trial of physical endurance in Hong Kong;  and extreme danger underwater off the coast of  Sudan.

But, as well as experiencing the action, the reader discovers the pressures and pleasures, the hardships and the camaraderie of daily life in the SAS — and, above all, gets inside the skin and the head of an extraordinary man.
