Description
Yachting World Annual 1954
PUBLISHED YACHTING WORLD
Providing a complete illustrated record of the 1953 season’s yachting activities, this popular annual will be welcomed by yachtsmen everywhere. It has the same high standard of production as in previous editions, and authoritatively surveys every aspect of yachting, both sail and power, at home and abroad. The section on new yachts, which has attracted so much attention in previous years, has been enlarged and details of over 4o new boats are given. This section is fully illustrated by plans and photographs. Among the special articles are an important contribution on yacht design by Laurent Giles, R.D.I., M.I.N.A., a delightful account of a cruise to the Faeroes and St. Kilda by Brendan Maguire, and an interesting study of some factors in deep sea racing by C. F. Mason. Other articles deal with recent developments in yacht construction, including the use of synthetic fibres for sails and plastic materials for hulls. Regular features include reports on the more important events of the season: off- shore and inshore racing, dinghy racing and motor yachting events. Some of the highlights here are exclusive reports on the Fastnet Race, the British-American Cup Races at Long Island Sound, the I.Y.R.U. two-man centreboard dinghy trials at La Baule, and the Coronation Fleet Review at Spithead. Results of the more important races are included in appendices. One of the notable features of the Annual each year is its wealth of up-to-date photo- graphs. Once again, Britain’s leading marine photographers have contributed their finest pictures, making the book a feast for the eye. Yachting World Annual is an ideal book for everyone with a love of boats and the sea, as well as a valuable permanent work of reference.
