Yachting World Annual 1958

PUBLISHED YACHTING WORLD

About this book NO YACHTSMAN who wants to keep abreast of the sport of yachting can afford to be without Yachting World Annual. This I958 edition contains a superb collection of articles by authors of world repute and by that team of writers which has, over the years, put Yachting World right in the forefront of the world’s magazines devoted to the sport of yachting. In an article which Carleton Mitchell himself describes as the best he has ever written, he tells us about his world-famous yacht Finisterre. He calls it “A Study in Beam”, and he illustrates the article with his own remarkable photographs. Archie White writes about a cruise with an object, and on this occasion the intention is to see the Bayeux Tapestry. Mr. G. Sambrooke Sturgess, who is the acknowledged international authority on racing rules and needs no introduction to readers of Yachting World, writes on the history of these rules. Eric Hiscock, who will always be remembered for his World voyage in Wanderer I I I , writes about a cruise in the little-known and un- frequented waters of West Ireland. Weston Martyr contributes “The £500 Millionaires”, an article describing cruising on British canals and inland waterways. Keith Shackleton’s article on “Seagulls” and his inimitable illustrations will appeal to all lovers of the sea. Ian Proctor writes on the development of the I2 ft National Class, while F. B. R. Brown, chairman of the Technical Committee of the Royal Ocean Racing Club, con- tributes a thoroughly practical design of his dream ship. David Cobb writes on open road steads and his illustrations adorn both his own article and that about Cutty Sark. There are other articles on ocean cruising, a review of ocean racing and descriptions of regattas and offshore races. The design section contains plans and photo- graphs of more than fifty yachts of all types on the boards of the world’s leading yacht architects. Each design is treated separately in a carefully considered and authoritative article and this section of the Annual will appeal to all yachts- men. The 1958 Yachting World Annual is better than ever before, and is, as always, beautifully illustrated with the pick of the season’s photographs. I92 pages, including 40 pages of art plates, and over 150 text illustrations.
